I got the opportunity to play live with Calgary based Country Rock band Memphis and the Grande! They compose and perform all original music, and this summer did a residency at Keith's Hootenanny every second Thursday as the headline act.
I was invited to join them onstage for the last two shows in September 2021. This required my learning their songs fairly quickly. I joined the band for rehearsals in Memphis' garage, where Nate and the rest of the band coached me through the set list and song structure.
Kurt Morgan gave me some help as well in terms of scales, and link solos used in the Country Rock genre.
They were also kind enough to let me request a cover tune to play - so we did Short Skirt Long Jacket by Cake!
It was a great experience, and I look forward to playing live with Memphis and the Grande at future gigs!
